...Recently I’ve started to overcome my slight fear of Citi Biking. It’s been pretty cool but here are some of my thoughts on the matter
Bikers get no respect - pedestrians hate them, cars hate them, other bikers hate them, I bet children even hate them for some reason. Biking in the street because there isn’t a bike lane? Expect to be honked at and sped past by some car-brained f*cks. Many neighborhoods in Brooklyn can be difficult to get to via transit despite being quite close to each other but biking fixes this! Several trips that I frequently take in 20-30 minutes are now 10-15, very cool. Over the weekend, I had to get from the Lower East Side to Greenpoint instead of 40 minutes on the train, I opted for the 20 minute bike ride and I was rewarded with a beautiful trip over the Williamsburg Bridge - it made my day. I neeeeeeed to get a helmet ASAP but I’ve been lazy. My girlfriend gets on me about it almost every day now. I agree and I know it’s irresponsible, I’m just cheap! I’ll get on it this week. Having the yearly membership is so awesome, especially if you can get it for a discount ! I paid $120 for mine 2 months ago and I’ve already saved $140.05 (allegedly). I’m never ever ever riding the regular bikes unless my life depends on it - they feel like you’re pedaling through sand. Electric stallions for life, I don’t care that they cost more. I know someone who very recently f*cked up their face/teeth while Citi Biking while too drunk, would not recommend. Sometimes I wish the basket was a tad bigger but I get it would be too bulky. On the same note - be careful with your belongings! A friend of mine lost her phone when it fell out of the basket on her way to work. Luckily, a very kind old man found and returned it to her. I can’t believe people bike with their huge noise cancelling headphones on - I need at least one ear out (Also think that’s the law maybe?) Dock availability really makes or breaks everything, I’d frequently bike to work right now considering the nice weather but there’s never a single dock open near the office.
